My movement classes are open to everyone. The only thing you need to be able to do is get up and down from the floor independently. Classes are based on a gentle, scientifically proven, movement method that works directly with the nervous system and the brain's plasticity to bring about lasting change.
Each class is an invitation to explore your own movement. You move slowly at your own pace, paying close attention to your own sensations as you move. Using your awareness you will gradually begin to notice small patterns of movement that restrict you. During the class new pathways of movement will open up to you, allowing you to break free of these restrictions and move more freely.
It is a somatic process; which means you focus very closely on your own internal sensations to guide you. Because your awareness is so vital to the process we call these classes Awareness Through Movement lessons.
Many of the movements we explore are based on early developmental movements, others are based on everyday functional movements which can help you in actions such as sitting, standing, walking, reaching, turning and bending down. Lessons help you to make lasting changes to your balance, coordination, flexibility and breathing and help you move through life with more comfort and ease. The lessons are excellent for both injury prevention and recovery and address the imbalances caused by illness or surgery.
In the class, we move within our own range and ability staying as comfortable as possible at all times; this is essential for learning. We rest after each movement so we have time to feel the differences that are occurring. You have time to focus completely on yourself and your own movement.
Sometimes we explore movement lying on our back, sometimes we lie on our side and occasionally we lie on our front.
Spring Workshops 2025
In these spring workshops we’ll explore how to bring clarity and ease to our every day functional movements. By understanding how you move as a whole, you begin to see that most movement difficulties are not isolated to parts, but rather, part of a bigger picture.
You will have the opportunity to observe your own movement habits in more depth and discover new connections you may not have found before.
Coordinating the pelvis and chest 25th April 10.30am - 12.30
Turning or rotating around our axis is an important functional movement that we all rely upon every day. Good rotation is essential for activities such as walking, running and even driving a car. Difficulties with rotation can occur for many reasons such as injury, surgery or poor habits of posture. This can lead to reduced mobility or range of movement which can make it harder for us to remain active.
Join me for this special workshop where we’ll explore our own rotational movement. We will work through two Feldenkrais lessons to help you re-organise and harmonise the movements of the chest and pelvis to support the action of turning.
We will work on our back and on our side during this workshop so please have a blanket or folded towel and cushions ready for extra support.
Are you carrying the weight of the world? 9th May 10.30am - 12.30
Is it time to give your shoulders a break and restore some balance?
Shoulders are a common place we hold our stress and tension and this often affects our head and neck as well. Emotionally, the shoulders are thought to represent a place where we carry burdens, whether it’s responsibility, anxiety, or unresolved emotions. Tension in these places can lead to tightness, discomfort, headaches and even chronic pain.
Join me on this mornings workshop, during International Feldenkrais Week, for a chance to give your neck and shoulders some much needed TLC!
We will delve into two Feldenkrais lessons designed to bring clarity to the organisation of these sensitive places and teach you how to make use of the larger structures of the chest and pelvis to provide more support for their movements.
We will work on our back and on our side during this workshop so please have a blanket or folded towel and cushions nearby for extra support.
Please note
Workshops cost £20 each. They last two hours with a comfort break in the middle. Places will be limited to ensure individual attention.
Please have a mat or blanket to work on and set your computer or tablet up so that I can clearly see you on the floor. Workshops take place on Zoom and you can come to one, some or all. Workshops assume you are able get down on to the floor and back up again independently.
Booking is essential to register and receive your Zoom link so please get in touch using the contact form
You can download a New Student Form to complete before you attend (Only required for in person classes).
Wear loose clothing you can move easily in; joggers or leggings are ideal. You may need layers to stay warm in the colder months.
Bring an exercise mat and a small blanket you can easily roll up; you may need this for support.
